Vickers, I prefer to think...she deserved a better death than just getting crushed by the Engineer's ship. In the 'ALIEN' Universe, Important Characters should get Interesting Deaths. Marlene, my wife, she's the Writer in our family, that's her take--and I just agree with it, as movies are all about Visual, right?

Why in God's name is she just letting that thing suffocate her? Any sane/trained person would be trying to pull/throw it away from him/her.

This picture would make more sense if you drew her at least trying to get it off of her with both hands. One hand could've been on the loop above her head while the other hand was under her neck.
